Château Richelieu – vignoble de Fronsac

OVER TIME

Once upon a time, there was Fronsac, the cradle of the Bordeaux vineyards. About 2,000 years ago, the Romans introduced the European vine (Vitis vinifera) and established the first vineyard on the southern slope of the 'Tertre de Fronsac', where part of the Château Richelieu vineyard is located today. Time has passed, and today the Château Richelieu vineyard remains unchanged, preserving the fragrance of bygone eras.

EXPRESSING THE TERROIR

DISCOVER THE COLLECTION AND EXPLORE EACH CUVÉE

In the dazzling world of Bordeaux wines, Château de Richelieu is undoubtedly a precious gem. The estate is renowned not only for the excellence of its wines but also for the rich historical and cultural heritage that commands such admiration. The wines produced here are a genuine expression of the union between terroir and the human touch.

The flagship wine of our estate, this cuvée stands out for its aromas of red fruits enhanced by delicate spicy notes. It is crafted from a Merlot-dominant blend, complemented by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Each lot is carefully selected for its aromatic qualities, structure and personality, resulting in a wine that is balanced, complex and true to the identity of the estate.

ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH

Environmentally friendly viticulture: We have chosen mechanical soil work and therefore completely avoid the use of chemical herbicides. Ground cover is managed sensibly parcel by parcel, as is the establishment of sowings, which provide our soils with green manure, an ideal microbial life, and beneficial fauna for our vineyard.

Green work (pruning, wood pulling, bending, shoot thinning, trellising, lifting) is carried out manually by our team. Our approach is largely empirical and is informed by observation of our plots and reflection throughout the seasons.
